A Little About Myself Muscular dystrophy, Medical Professional |
Pros Sturdy |
Cons Unsafe for back problems |
For people with muscular dystrophy and/or severe back problems or weakness, the High-Low function proves this chair's most attractive feature. However, when this chair reaches a convenient or high enough level, its back has also moved forward, in such a manner, that it forces the person's back to bend beyond an acceptable and safe degree. Muscular dystrophy patients and those who suffer from spondyloarthropathies can not bend beyond a very restricted range without a high risk of falling. The first and only time I sat in my new chair, someone had to assist me in getting out of it, as I nearly fell. Other than that, the lift chair is very comfortable but useless to me. Therefore, I am stuck with it and, currently, in the midst of having a base made to help me achieve the necessary altitude without falling, realizing in the process, that I could have done the same with a regular recliner, and not have to pay all that extra money for a very attractive feature that I can not use. NOTE TO THE MANUFACTURER For the large group of patients aforementioned, the following suggestions should resolve the problem: 1) THE BACK FUNCTION NEEDS TO BE INDEPENDENT FROM THE HIGH-LOW FEATURE. or 2) THE HIGH-LOW FEATURE NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED TO ALLOW FOR RAISING THE CHAIR (seat to floor distance only) WITHOUT THE FORWARD MOTION COMPONENT or 3) PRESERVING THE FORWARD COMPONENT, which is certainly useful, ONLY THE SEAT SHOULD MOVE FORWARD WHILE THE BACK ADJUSTS TO COMPENSATE, THE CHANGING DEGREE, IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. |

A Little About Myself Bad back and knees |
Pros Durable upholstry, Sturdy, Great value |
Cons |
I used to struggle getting out of my chair after sitting for a while, but now I can rise to the occasion and proceed with more stability. Because the lift chair comes in several sizes, it is very comfortable and supports my build well. |
